Birthday Cake With A Twist!

I received a request for a Birthday cake for a huge University of Michigan fan. They also wanted to incorporate a fun "surprise" for someone who'd be at the celebration who was a fan of a rival team, and the birthday was a couple days after the rival football game this fall.

So I set out to create this cake. It ended up being a two level blue and yellow marble cake with a dark chocolate filling and vanilla buttercream. The real fun came in the decorations, especially the special surprise corner. While the majority of the cake was dedicated to the maize and blue of U of M glory, there was one corner with a special icing color. But, once you cut into that special corner, it was the same maize and blue marble as the rest, fake out!
